Make your own flashcards! Create a keynote presentation (or powerpoint) with very few words on a slide. You might try a presentation of vocabulary words. Put the definition on the first slide and the word on the second slide. Repeat this pattern. Save the presentation then export it out as images (File/Export). Save them into iPhoto into a vocabulary album. When you sync your iPad, choose the album called Vocabulary. These will appear in your photos app on your iPad. Students see the definition then try to guess the word. They can flip the page to see the answer. Keynote presentations can be saved for a wide variety of reasons: math problems, questions & answers over science or social studies materials, to introduce a unit, to show how to write haiku or other poetry, on and on and on! Mr. Coley, a former fifth grade teacher, has created many sets of flashcards that are available for download. If these do not happen to match your curriculum, at least you'll have some ideas for making your own flashcards.
